How Often Should I Use Essential Oils for Hair Growth?

Essential oils can be used for a variety of reasons and hair growth is one of them. For those who are concerned about the health and state of their hair, oils such as basil, peppermint, bergamot and lavender can help the growth of hair and its overall health.

How frequently should I use essential oils for hair growth?

There are different ways of using essential oils for thinning hair. Both methods will produce very similar results, so choose which one suits your needs best.

  • Mix 2-3 drops of your chosen essential oil into a carrier oil (essential oils are highly concentrated and need to be diluted) and apply directly to your scalp. Massage for 2-3 minutes with a generous amount of force
  • Mix a few drops of your chosen essential oil into your shampoo or conditioner and wash your hair normally.

Doing either of these methods once a day – preferably at night – will help those who are thinning or balding and want to achieve hair growth. You can choose to leave the oil in your hair overnight or rinse it out straight after application.

What essential oils promote faster hair growth and thickness?

Basil essential oil is an extremely effective oil for hair growth, as shown in a range of studies. Basil oil is great for regrowth and preventing hair loss in the first place.

Lavender essential oils

Lavender oil can speed up the hair growth process as proven in one animal study. As well as this, it also has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which can help improve overall scalp health.

Lemongrass essential oils

Having a healthy, flake-free scalp is an important part of hair growth. Lemongrass is an effective treatment for dandruff and the best time to use it is to add a few drops into your shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair.

Peppermint essential oils

Peppermint oil increases blood circulation to the area that it’s applied to. This increase in blood flow helps the hair follicles grow thicker and faster.

Tea tree essential oils

Coming in different levels of concentration, tea tree essential oil can unplug hair follicles which promotes hair growth for those with thinning hair.
